Why is my AGT LRT23 running hot?

Quick fix: First find out whether the ENGINE or the HYDRAULIC SYSTEM is overheating; they have different fluids and checks.

GET THE RIGHT ANSWER FIRST

Start here — before replacing any parts

First find out whether the ENGINE or the HYDRAULIC SYSTEM is overheating; they have different fluids and checks.

Safety before troubleshooting: Park safely, lower the attachment, shut down and let systems cool. Hydraulic fluid can penetrate skin under pressure; never loosen pressurized lines.
Check that this is YOUR version

Check the installed engine nameplate. RATO R740D service procedures must not be applied to a Briggs-equipped LRT23.

Manual scope: Cooling-system differences by machine revision; no fan rewiring advice

PART 1 · ACTIONABLE TEST

Do these checks in order

Follow the steps below and keep a record of what changes after each one. Stop when an actual cause is confirmed.

01

Park safely, lower the attachment, shut off and cool. Note whether there is an actual temperature gauge/alarm, engine power loss, hot hydraulic oil, or just a warm machine cover.

02

Identify installed engine (RATO or Briggs). Inspect accessible air intake, cooling fins and fan-air path on the correct engine; remove debris only when cold and stopped.

03

Check hydraulic reservoir level by the AGT manual’s correct procedure and inspect for visible external leaks without touching or cracking pressurized lines.

04

If evidence points to engine overheating, follow the engine maker’s service diagnostic; if oil or hydraulic functions overheat, seek a hydraulic specialist to check restrictions and cooling/load.

If the problem is gone

Temperature issue disappears after removing verified cooling-air obstruction or restoring a prescribed fluid level: monitor closely for recurrence.

If the problem is still there

Temperatures rise again or any leak/pressure warning occurs: stop use; do not adjust pump relief valves, bypass cooling components or open hot hydraulic lines.

PART 2 · CAUSE BY CAUSE

Which cause matches your result?

Use these more specific checks only when the earlier steps point to that possibility.

01Check which component is overheating

How to narrow it down

Determine whether the symptom is engine temperature, hydraulic oil temperature or an instrument warning.

If confirmed, what to do

Choose the matching engine or hydraulic diagnostic, not a generic overheat repair.

02Hydraulic oil level may be low

How to narrow it down

With the machine parked, stopped and cooled, check the reservoir against the LRT23 manual markings.

If confirmed, what to do

Use only hydraulic fluid specified for the machine and correct level. Low fluid alone does not prove the cause of overheating.

03Heat or pressure symptoms continue

How to narrow it down

Do not loosen a hot or pressurized hydraulic line.

If confirmed, what to do

Stop operating and have hydraulic and cooling systems inspected by a qualified technician.

PART 3 · CONFIRM THE REPAIR

How can I tell it is actually fixed?

Confirm stable temperature and normal power over a controlled short duty cycle, not just a few seconds at idle.

Before buying a replacement part

Match engine oil and hydraulic fluid separately to the correct manuals; never substitute one for the other.
