Start here — before replacing any parts
If the head travels but no mark is made, verify job output settings and focus before calling the laser module defective.
Confirm the actual RAY5 10W controller firmware and software connection method; generic GRBL codes may not be supported by every firmware.
Manual scope: Laser focus and settings; laser eye safety
Do these checks in order
Follow the steps below and keep a record of what changes after each one. Stop when an actual cause is confirmed.
Confirm the emergency stop or pause state, job power and speed settings in the currently used software; compare against the manufacturer’s recommended material test settings.
With laser OFF, follow LONGER’s RAY5 10W focusing procedure to set the correct distance between module and work surface. Never focus by directly viewing the beam.
Inspect the lens window and nozzle for soot/debris only with power OFF, then clean with the approved lens procedure.
Run a tiny enclosed and supervised low-risk test on approved scrap using the manufacturer’s safe starter settings, not arbitrary maximum laser power.
If the problem is gone
Normal marking resumes after correcting focus, software output setting or lens contamination: do not replace the module.
If the problem is still there
No marking with correct software and approved focus: record whether the laser status indicator operates; follow LONGER module/power diagnosis before replacing parts.
Which cause matches your result?
Use these more specific checks only when the earlier steps point to that possibility.
01The laser output may be disabled by a mode or file setting
With the laser safely enclosed/protected, check the software's laser enable and power settings for this job.
Correct the job configuration according to LONGER's supported software guidance.
02The laser module or cable is not working as expected
Power off the machine; visually inspect the module cable and relevant connectors.
Restore an obvious loose connection per the manual; professional service should test suspected laser-module faults. Never defeat laser safety controls.
How can I tell it is actually fixed?
Confirm a repeatable sample mark on approved scrap at identical settings and appropriate eye/fire protection.
Before buying a replacement part
Laser module, power supply and optical parts must match the RAY5 10W production version.
