GET THE RIGHT ANSWER FIRST

Start here — before replacing any parts

Identify whether the problem is USB serial discovery or Wi-Fi configuration; each requires different settings in LightBurn.

Safety before troubleshooting: Laser radiation can cause eye injury and fire. Follow the manufacturer's enclosure, eyewear and fire-safety rules; disconnect power before inspecting motion hardware.
Check that this is YOUR version

Confirm the actual RAY5 10W controller firmware and software connection method; generic GRBL codes may not be supported by every firmware.

Manual scope: Connection type / driver / firmware dependency

PART 1 · ACTIONABLE TEST

Do these checks in order

Follow the steps below and keep a record of what changes after each one. Stop when an actual cause is confirmed.

01

For USB: unplug and reconnect the data cable, open the OS device manager and note which serial COM port appears. Close other programs that could hold the same port.

02

In LightBurn choose the Ray5 GRBL device and the newly observed COM port; if it never appears, use LONGER’s CH340 driver troubleshooting and a known-good USB data cable.

03

For Wi-Fi: join the RAY5 and computer to the SAME Wi-Fi network and read the address on the RAY5 touchscreen. In LightBurn add a separate GRBL Ethernet/TCP device using the manufacturer’s Wi-Fi procedure.

04

Select the correct USB OR TCP device profile deliberately; LightBurn will not always switch automatically when USB is unplugged. Test the Ready/Disconnected state before sending a job.

If the problem is gone

LightBurn shows Ready and basic status commands respond on the selected interface: the connection is established.

If the problem is still there

USB is stable but Wi-Fi fails: keep troubleshooting IP/device profile/network isolation; do not reflash firmware without checking LONGER’s exact board update instructions.

PART 2 · CAUSE BY CAUSE

Which cause matches your result?

Use these more specific checks only when the earlier steps point to that possibility.

01Wi-Fi devices are on different networks

How to narrow it down

Check that the computer and RAY5 are using the intended local network or device hotspot.

If confirmed, what to do

Connect them to the same appropriate network.

02LightBurn has the wrong IP address or port

How to narrow it down

Compare the device IP with the LightBurn connection settings and current LONGER setup guide.

If confirmed, what to do

Enter the actual IP; for the referenced network guide, confirm its required port rather than guessing.

03The USB driver or COM port is wrong

How to narrow it down

If using USB, inspect the detected serial port and any driver warning.

If confirmed, what to do

Install the manufacturer-approved driver, select the right COM port and try a known data cable.

PART 3 · CONFIRM THE REPAIR

How can I tell it is actually fixed?

Disconnect/reconnect once, ensure the correct profile returns to Ready, and run a safe brief supervised file.

Before buying a replacement part

Wi-Fi capability, COM drivers and supported firmware vary; do not enter assumed IP addresses or ports.
